Ericsson and Orange Egypt have signed a multi-year deal to collaborate on accelerating the telco's digital transformation and build a resilient architecture across its network.
Under the multi-year deal, the companies will deploy Ericsson's Catalog Manager and Order Care products, which are part of Ericsson's Business and Operations Support Systems (B/OSS) portfolio.
Ericsson said that these will be "future-proofed" by implementing them as cloud-native solutions using its Cloud Container Distribution.
"The new capabilities could bring greater flexibility to Orange Egypt's customers through the digitization and personalization of the subscription process," Ericsson said in a statement.
As well as improving the subscriber's service experience, Orange Egypt should gain additional data and insight into customer preferences to help it make competitive pricing decisions.
Deal to modernize and upgrade charging solutions
The deal will also see Ericsson modernizing and upgrading its charging solution, and expand its mediation solution. Both are being used by Orange Egypt.
Orange Egypt Chief Technology Officer Dr Ayman Amiri said the telco is committed to playing a key role in the country's digital transformation in line with the Sustainable Development Strategy (SDS) to support the Egypt Vision 2030.

"The extension of our long-standing partnership with Ericsson will fast-track our efforts to build advanced digital infrastructure across our network. The move represents a new milestone in our shared efforts to shape a connected world," Amiri added.
"Digital service experience, catalog-driven orchestration and cloud native technology are essential for Communications Service Providers (CSPs) to successfully manage with the complex challenges arising in the era of 5G and Internet of Things (IoT)," added Vice President and Head of Ericsson Saudi Arabia and Egypt at Ericsson Middle East and Africa, Håkan Cervell.
Egyptian deals everywhere
This is not the only recently signed digital transformation deal in the North African country.
At the 2024 Mobile World Congress (MWC), which took place in Barcelona in March, Ericsson and MTN Group announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing sustainability, digital skills and education across Africa.
That partnership will see the two companies collaborate on sustainability initiatives in line with principles of the UN's Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17 – which aims to promote sustainable technologies to developing countries.

Also at MWC, Orange Middle East and Africa (MEA), which Orange Egypt is part of, signed an agreement with Microsoft through the Africa Transformation Office. The deal is aimed at offering Microsoft solutions to small and midsized enterprises (SMEs) across 17 countries in the MEA region.
In January 2024, Telecom Egypt and Zain Omantel International (ZOI) partnered to establish what they call a new digital corridor connecting the Mediterranean to the Arabian Sea and Arabian Gulf.
