MTN Cameroon Boasts GSMA Mobile Money Certification
The certification followed a rigorous assessment of MTN Cameroon's Mobile Money (MoMo) services by the GSMA.
MTN Cameroon, the leading company in the telecommunications sector in Cameroon, is pleased to announce that it has been discerned the GSMA Mobile Money certification. The certification was discerned by GSMA following a rigorous assessment that ran from 02 to 06 December 2019 with the aim of evaluating the conformity of MTN Cameroon’s Mobile Money (MoMo) services to best practices in the sector.
GSMA which represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide in the broader mobile ecosystem, recognizes MTN Cameroon as an operator that delivers secure, transparent and durable financial services; and an organization that has the capacity to protect the rights of its customers and fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
According to Alain Claude Nono, General Manager Mobile Financial Services at MTN Cameroon “Mobile Money users in Cameroon can rest assured in the capacity of MTN to secure their transactions, educate them on the use of the products and services that it puts at their disposal and communicate transparently on the tariffs for various services to ensure optimal quality of service.”
The GSMA Mobile Money certification is a source of pride for MTN Cameroon. MTN Cameroon is the 1st operator in the CEMAC zone to receive the GSMA Mobile Money certification. Of over 272 operators across the world, only 12 have so far received the GSMA Mobile Money Certification. MTN Cameroon is also the 4th operator within the MTN Group to be certified following Côte d’Ivoire, Uganda, and Ghana.

Launched on 31 August 2010, MTN Mobile Money (MoMo) is today the most extensive financial network in Cameroon with a network of more than 70,000 points of sales across the country’s 10 regions. The reliability of MTN’s payment solution is trusted by several thousand partners in various sectors of activity who accept payments by MTN MoMo: ENEO, Canal+, Diageo, supermarkets, hotels, restaurants, petrol stations, transport sector, agriculture, etc.
MTN MoMo is also an efficient solution for digitalizing the payment of certain public services. With MTN MoMo, Cameroonians can pay their land tax with their phone or receive through their handset, family allowances paid by the National Social Insurance Fund (NSIF). In addition, thousands of students are already paying their school and university fees remotely with MTN MoMo.
