Pan African Women Empowerment Network (PAWEN) MD, Oluwaseyi Kehinde-Peters, spoke to Connecting Africa Associate Editor Matshepo Sehloho at Africa Tech Festival 2024 about how the company is empowering African women in tech.

PAWEN is an organization focused on uplifting women across Africa and it provides resources, training and support to help women achieve economic independence, leadership roles and personal development.

Kehinde-Peters said the company was established to address ongoing gender disparities on the continent.

"We are focused on one key mission, which is empowering African women with the competence, the confidence and the connections that they need to lead and succeed in business and their careers," she said.

PAWEN's programs

Kehinde-Peters discussed some of the different types of programs that PAWEN runs and how it measures its impact by looking at the number of women starting businesses after the training and also how many women are scaling those businesses.

"For our leadership programs, we are looking at how many women we place on boards as well as how many women are able to get C-suite roles after completing our leadership development programs," she added.

She said the company also looks at how many angel investors are investing in female-owned businesses.

"We are more outcomes focused than output focused," she continued.
