Sudatel Teams With Liquid Telecom for FTTH Push

Sudatel has teamed up with Liquid Telecom for the development of fiber broadband access networks that will deliver broadband speeds of up to 100 Mbit/s to homes and businesses in Sudan.

Representatives from the two operators signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona this week.

Liquid Telecom has experience in building out fiber broadband access networks, having done so already in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Kenya and Rwanda. Liquid Telecom, part of the Econet Global, already runs Africa's largest independent fiber network, spanning more than 50,000km in Eastern, Southern and Central Africa, which it leverages to provide FTTH services to homes and businesses in multiple markets.

Further details, though, have not been announced, such as where the fiber access networks will be built, when they will be built, how much it will cost and who will be paying for the construction of the network infrastructure.
