Algeria's best and worst operators - according to Opensignal

Ooredoo Algeria has come out on top in a new Mobile Network Experience Report from mobile analytics company Opensignal.

The report – which collected data between November 1, 2022, and January 29, 2023 – found that Ooredoo's network had the fastest download and upload speeds in the country.

Ooredoo won Opensignal's Download Speed Experience award with a score of 13.8 Mbit/s – 69.7% faster than Mobilis' score and over twice that of Djezzy.

Ooredoo also won the Upload Speed Experience category with a score of 5.8 Mbit/s, around 1.7 Mbit/s faster than Mobilis and Djezzy, which tied for second place.

Statistics from market research company Omdia show that Mobilis is Algeria's biggest network with around 20.5 million mobile users at the end of 2022. Djezzy was the second biggest with almost 15 million users while Opensignal's top scorer, Ooredoo, was the smallest operator with almost 13 million mobile subscribers.

Consistent connectivity

Ooredoo also came out on top according to Opensignal for both its consistency measures – scoring 64.2% for Core Consistent Quality, 10.6% higher than second-placed Mobilis, while Djezzy brought up the rear with a score of 51.8%.

When it came to Excellent Consistent Quality Ooredoo also beat Mobilis by 10.4 percentage points and Djezzy by 12.8 percentage points.

Mobilis, however, was first for 4G Coverage Experience, while Djezzy was the best on 4G Availability. Opensignal's 4G users on Djezzy's network spent 79.3% of their time connected to 4G. Ooredoo follows in second with a score of 75.6%, and Mobilis was in third place with a score of 68.6%.

The 4G Availability metric shows the proportion of time that 4G subscribers had access to a 4G connection – specifically those who had never connected to 5G.

Ooredoo was also best when it came to Video Experience with a score of 46.2 points on a 100-point scale. Djezzy followed eight points lower, in second place, meaning Ooredoo scores 21% higher than the closest runner-up. Mobilis was not far behind, in third, with a score of 34.7 points.

All three Algerian national operators scored well when it came to Availability – with statistically similar scores of between 92.1% and 92.5% – this means that no matter which operator users are customers of they spend over 90% of their time with a 3G connection or better.

Opensignal's Global Mobile Network Experience Awards, published earlier this month, showed that North Africa's operators recorded a strong improvement in user experience during 2022.
